Other Things You Need to Know about 2023 Sales Tax Holidays
Most holidays provide a sales tax exemption on clothing and school supplies, with many also providing an exemption on computers and computer peripherals. Some states only exempt clothing and other items priced at below a certain threshold.
In most cases, accessories, athletic, protective and rental clothing are not subject to the sales tax holiday, though states vary. (See the table above.)
Further, in most cases, only items purchased for personal use are subject to sales tax. Commercial items, such as a computer purchased for use in an office, are not subject to the Back to School sales tax holiday in most states.
